  French River La ndscap e Artist: Frits Thaulow (1847-1906) About Museum’s Collection of Oil Paintings The museum’s oil paintings collection includes artworks by American, European, and Asian artists from the 17th century to as recent as 2017. These paintings give a retrospective look at the progression and changes in art from the past to the present. From allegorical paintings to luminist landscapes, these works offer a unique perspective on how the use of color, light, and rendering can be applied to change how the viewer relates to the works. About the artist Frits Thaulow was a Norwegian impressionist painter and engraver. Originally wanting to become a marine painter, he studied at the art academy in Copenhagen (1870-1873) as well as with the Danish marine specialist C. F. Sorensen (1818-1879).
